Returning as a Family

I first met Talia & Matt when I photographed their engagement session back in 2017. So I was beyond delighted when Talia reached out again to inquire about booking a family portrait session! The email update not only included photographs from their stunning mountaintop ceremony but adorable photographs of their darling baby girl, Stevie.

As a photographer living in a vacation destination, we don't always have the pleasure of photographing the milestone moments in a family's life. So whenever I have the opportunity to see a family grow over the years I feel incredibly stoked and blessed. This is one of the main reasons why I offer a returning client discount as well. I really appreciate the continued support but more than anything I love getting to reconnect with people over the years! It means a lot to know that when Stevie grows up she'll look back on these photographs. Even if she's too young to remember, these will be a keepsake and family heirloom to pass on to future generations. Photographs truly are the gift that keeps on giving!

Gaurav reached out wanting to do something special for his girlfriend Yunzhe's birthday by booking a couples shoot together. I was thrilled and loved the idea, such a sweet way to celebrate and commemorate life. We met up at one of my favorite beaches on Maui's south side for an epic hour of golden hour glow! A West Side Proposal - Spencer & Elizabeth

We met on one of West Maui's beautiful beaches for the surprise session of Elizabeth's life. Spencer wanted to start the shoot under the ruse it was "just a regular photoshoot" so there was no hiding in the bushes for me this time. Somehow he had held a perfect poker face during Elizabeth's attempts to pry the truth from him. She suspected it could be a proposal moment, but his fierce insistence that it wasn't had her fooled (or at least mostly fooled). We waited about a 1/3 of the way through the session, to really sell the ruse when I placed them back to back with a prompt for a fun photo I had in mind. She may have suspected at this moment, but when she turned around there was only the overwhelming joy at the sight she saw behind her. It was true, the proposal had happened! With lots of laughter and teasing banter, we enjoyed the rest of our session in the giddy glow of love. Thank you Spencer & Elizabeth, wishing you many years of happiness!

Kama'aina Portraits | The Erickson Ohana

Meet the Erickson family of Haiku and their adorable daughter Ariella. Her mother is a horticulturalist, and responsible for much of the planting done at our shoot location, the Haiku Mill, during her years working there. Her father is an arborist. So, naturally, this girl is a future green thumb in the making! Even as we made our way through the grounds Ariella couldn't stop reaching out and grabbing the many leaves, vines and flowers surrounding her. Haiku Mill is an absolutely breathtaking location and probably one of the most epic wedding venues in the world!

Gianni & Shoana | Romantic Oceanside Proposal

Gianni and I talked for months before his proposal to girlfriend Shoana. He wanted it to be sweet, romantic and unique to them. From the custom sign he ordered through Etsy to the handwritten message in a bottle, the personal touches were an important part of his proposal plan. With the help of Aloha Flower Co we had a tropical heart made in the sand, and the custom touches added for Shoana to find.

I setup like a tourist enjoying the beach, camera hiding in wait...Gianni knowing the plan and final beach location led Shoana to discover a message that had sailed across the ocean to find her on this beach in Maui. With message in hand Gianni dropped down to one knee and proposed with an absolutely stunning engagement diamond. Tears of joy and lots of laughs filled the air as we officially kicked off our proposal celebration! We spend the next hour photographing and exploring the beach together until the sun dipped and the moon rose.

Volunteering in Haleakalā National Park | The Endemic ʻĀhinahina

Recently I was fortunate enough to be part of a small group of volunteers planting endemic Silverswords at Haleakala's summit. It was an early, windy morning and absolutely beautiful. Conditions at Haleakala's summit are harsh, and these tough little plants are a part of a small group of plant and animal species that can withstand the extremes. Lead on by park botanist, Michelle Osgood, volunteers planted over 100 silverswords that morning! It was part of a statewide effort led by ReTree Hawaii to plant trees across all the islands.

I've always loved visiting Haleakala, the wild landscape holds a very special place in my heart. It was amazing to give back to a place so special to me, and for a cause so close to my heart. Hoping to dive into other volunteer efforts around Maui again soon. Backyard Creative | Megan in Photographic Moments

My new home in Makawao has this beautiful terra-cotta colored wall in the backyard. Ever since I moved in I've wanted to use it as a photography backdrop. The light on it is especially beautiful in the evening, when the shadows are long and the light turns golden. The tall dracaena border casts beautiful dappled light along the wall, and I knew I needed a model to do some creative portraits playing with light and shadow. This is where I give a big thanks Megan Philibin (@meganinamoment) for modeling for me and reading my mind (she brought the bird of paradise flower, which was too perfect since I wished I had a single flower to play with as well right before our shoot). She also, obviously, brought the fire 🔥🔥🔥

Stephen, Diana and I all met up to explore Kapalua's beautiful coastline for an amazing sunset adventure. The coastal trail takes you to both gorgeous, dramatic cliffsides and golden sand beaches. It was a beautiful day for an adventure, the Maui sun was shining and the notorious Hawaiian breeze was kicking giving us amazing music video hair vibes. In Hawaii we learn to respect and embrace the elements, Mother Nature is powerful here. Lots of laugh and sweet little moments were had, a beautiful way to celebrate their newlywed bliss.
