Your Love is Unique
And your photographs should be too! No same old motions or always playing it safe. We're here for colorful, dynamic imagery that's as real, unique and beautiful as you! I know when to step in and give direction, and when to step back and let a special moment play out. I've been called "a ninja," by wedding guests and "a wizard" by clients. My goal is always the same, to create beautiful art that's true to you.
"Madelynne just photographed our elopement ceremony and I am just so over the moon in love with the photos she took. She captured this special moment in our lives so perfectly. In addition to her photographic talent, she is professional, curious and a dream to work with. I can't recommend her highly enough!" - Katie Gordon
Education & Experience
A technical perfectionist with a thirst for knowledge, I've spent most of my life studying photography to allow my creative side to flow without restraint. When it comes to editing, I oversee everything and never outsource. From image selection to color correction to high-end edits in Photoshop, it's all done personally by me. I've spent my whole life preparing for this day. So relax and enjoy!
I fell in love with photography young, and asked for a camera for as long as I can remember. When I was 12, I was given a reusable point & shoot film camera and fell head first in love with the craft. I went on to study at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California where I earned my BA in Commercial Photography. After which, I worked as a photographer assistant to pop culture icon and celebrity portrait artist, David LaChapelle in his Los Angeles studio. My love of the natural world then drew me to travel and teach photography workshops for Canon cameras. After spending months in the beauty of the national parks, I took a leap of faith and bought a one way ticket to Maui in October 2010. Since then, I've photographed thousands of events, weddings and portrait sessions in Maui and abroad.
"Madelynne is such a talented photographer! She worked with our entire family (all eleven of us—that includes 3 kids under eight) to capture some beautiful shots, both candid and posed. Her work feels fresh and almost... magical. We now have gorgeous, personal portraits of our family against the stunning backdrop of Maui. And they’re truly works of beauty—elegant, dynamic, and whimsical all at once, without the stiff and frumpy style of traditional portraits. Her lighting and eye for beauty is matched only by her gracious and humorous personality. So glad we went with the best!" - Crystel Yannell
Photographing the bride & groom with my 4x5 studio camera on black & white and color negative film, January 2020.
My photography journey started with film for many years. The first 18 months of study at Brooks Institute was devoted to technical learning, with hardly any creative assignments. The courses were designed to give photographers all the tools needed to achieve anything creatively. There were countless hours spent working on lighting tests, exposure exercises, studying posing and learning classical portrait lighting techniques. It helped hone my understanding of light, posing & editing techniques and prepare me for any shooting scenario.
Posing with my first ever Maui bride, Liz, back in 2012. We've become good friends over the years. So grateful have watched her family grow and photograph so many momentous moments in her life.
Self portrait in the place that helped me fall in love with the natural world, Lilmkiln State Park in California. My first trip there was for my Nature Photography class while attending Brooks Institute under the tutelage of Ralph Clevenger. His course deepened my love of photographing the natural world, a subject matter which dominates my portraiture and personal artwork. I always strive to not only showcase intimate, emotive candids showcasing your love, but dramatic landscape portraits that give a scene of space and express the grandness of the day.
